Inaugurated in 2005, this sculpture located in Matosinhos Beach, pays tribute to the families and victims of the wreck of four trawlers, which occurred in 1947, and killed 152 fishermen.
At about three meters high, this monument is composed of five figures of widows and orphans whose faces express the pain and suffering of families.
This sculpture was sculpted by José João Brito, based on the canvas of Augusto Gomes with the same name (Tragedy of the Sea).
